Running backs Brian Piccolo and Gale Sayers arrived at the Chicago Bears together in 1965. Sayers, the No.1 draft pick, Pic the undrafted free agent. Sayers found immediate stardom and a best friend. Piccolo made the team and when Sayers was injured, took his spot. But within 5 seasons, Brian Piccolo was stricken with cancer and died in June 1970. Not long before his death, Sayers received a courage award for his comeback from knee injuries. He dedicated the award to his dying friend.
